Reservations
I used SPG.com website and booked Sheraton Porto Hotel & Spa using rewards points at 10000 points per night. Average rate for this time of the year (mid April 2018) was around 250 euros plus tax. Booking process is always a breeze no matter if you are using a SPG or Marriott.com site in the future. Immediate email confirmation of points deduction and reservation arrived in my mailbox, and I was set.
That is saving of 0ver $600, and if you calculate rate of the upgraded room, over $1200!!!!
Arrival
My wife and I arrived at Sheraton Porto Hotel & Spa at 3:30 pm, after 6.5 hours drive from Lisbon, with stops on the way to take in local attractions. Located in the quiet garden district of of the city, tall modern glass façade of Sheraton Porto Hotel & Spa was a welcoming sight. In contrast to its sister property in Lisbon, this particular mixture of glass and concrete felt much warmer and modern. Maybe it was all the greenery and lack of traffic, but it had certain peacefulness to it. However, I was told to keep in mind that Porto’s main soccer stadium is close by, and if match is taking place, this could be a different story. Please, keep in mind, that Sheraton Porto Hotel & Spa is located away from main tourist attractions and requires short taxi ride or 20 minutes walk to get to Porto’s center. That said, we were greeted by a bellman, escorted to the lobby and immediately checked in with a complimentary room upgrade awaiting us.
Room and Club Lounge
After taking all glass elevator to the top Club Lounge Floor, we entered our huge (560 sq. ft.) Executive Suite. Ultra modern with all amenities as expected from this hotel and Nespresso coffee maker, the real wow factor was a balcony running full length of our suite, with expanse views of soccer stadium and garden district. Great place to relax and enjoy coffee. Full size bath with shower
was particularly useful after walking all day through steep streets of Porto. Down the hall from our room was a Sheraton Porto Hotel & Spa Club Lounge. It boasted its own balcony with great views. With complimentary access to Platinum Members it offered breakfast and evening snacks served daily. Complimentary coffee, wine, beer and non alcoholic beverages were accessible all day (7am-11pm), with liquors and ports (complimentary as well) between 5-8pm. Again, service was outstanding.
Dining
Main restaurant at Sheraton Porto Hotel & Spa is Michelin rated Porto Novo Restaurant. Inspired by the soul of Mediterranean cuisine, Porto Novo’s chef blends tradition and innovation to create the very best Portuguese gastronomy. Savor meats from the
wood-fired oven, fish and shellfish of the day, and international specialties. Dinner is served late, between 8-11 pm, however it is open for lunch and breakfast. New Yorker bar boasts a refined atmosphere as well as a magnificent adjacent terrace. Choose from Port wines, original cocktails, and a large selection of wines by the glass from around the world.
